Kareena Kapoor was the original choice for Umrao Jaan

Yes, it was Kareena Kapoor and not the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai that J.P. Dutta wanted in the female lead role in his magnum opus classic Umrao Jaan .
Reports are that Dutta wanted Kareena to play the lead role in the film opposite Abhishek Bachchan - both of whom he had launched in Refugee .
A report quotes Kareena confirming the story: "If I may say so, I was offered Umrao Jaan, but I think there was some sort of miscommunication between J P uncle and me. I met him at an award function in Amsterdam."
"I was a little tied up due to something, and by the time I could return his call, he got a little irritated with me, and went ahead with someone else. So, it’s okay, it happens," Kareena added.
And you thought Dutta was just cashing in on the ‘pairing’ of Ash and Abhishek when he announced the two in the lead roles in Umrao Jaan.
That’s what sets Dutta apart from other filmmakers.
Umrao Jaan, which is slated to release on October 20 this year, has Ash covering her face behind a veil, traditionally worn by Islamic women.
The film is a romantic tragedy with heavy Islamic tones.

Shahid and Kareena holidaying in Europe

Theirs is the love that has not waned a bit over the years.
For the last few weeks Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur have been holidaying in Switzerland and Austria. For Kareena, this vacation is a welcome break after the release of Omkara .
Together in the Swiss Alps, the two lovers have been chilling out - doing skiing, trekking and trying different kinds of foods and chocolates. Shahid is reported to be trying mountain climbing too.
The two also traveled to Vienna in Austria and then went to Salzburg right on the Austrian border with Germany.
In Salzburg, Shahid and Kareena caught up on a Mozart concert. The two have also been visiting art museums and reading European history throughout their tour.
According to a report, Kareena is absolutely ecstatic about the time spent holidaying with Shahid in Europe. She says traveling is an excellent way of discovering not just people and places but one’s self.
Kareena and Shahid will return to India early next week. They are already chalking out plans for their next vacation.

I can never match up to Helen Aunty- Kareena

This is what Kareena Kapoor said on TV yesterday when she was quizzed about her cameo in Farhan Akhtar's DON.
"It's great. I am nervous because I don't think I could ever match up to Helen aunty. What she has done is something else altogether and there is absolutely no comparison," she said. Comparisons to the classic DON are inevitable but that doesn't weigh her down.
The song is out with Kareena trying to seduce Shahrukh in the jazzy golden outfit, looking ravishing as ever. The song is sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and choreographed by Farah Khan. The original song was sung by Asha Bhosle and saw the legendary Helen gyrating to the sexy number, seducing don Amitabh Bachchan.
Coming back to Farhan's DON, Shahrukh Khan too looks cool with that retro look donning a smashing new hairdo. The film is very contemporary with modern day gizmos and gadgets, though the essence is pretty much the same.

Bebo Kareena Kapoor Turns 26

Daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita, both leading stars from the 1970s, Kareena was born on 21 September, 1980. Kareena and her elder sister Karishma, another leading Bollywood star, were both brought up by their mother after the Bollywood couple split.
Kareena Kapoor made her Bollywood debut in the year 2000 with a notable performance as a Pakistani girl in J P Dutta’s otherwise pedestrian Refugee, paired opposite the then somewhat shaky Abhishek Bachchan.
The next year, 2001, was a great year for Kapoor. She had two big hits in Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai and Karan Johar's multi starrer Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. In addition, she gave an endearing performance opposite Shah Rukh Khan as Kaurwaki in Ashoka. Within a year of her debut, Kareena was firmly in the saddle as a leading lady from the formidable Kapoor clan.

In Don will Kareena Kapoor sizzle or fizzle?

Comparisons may be odious but if you are acting in a remake of Don, a film that acquired a cult status, they are also inevitable.
Kareena Kapoor, 25, whose performance in Vishal Bhardwaj’s recent Omkara drew critical acclaim, makes a cameo appearance in the Farhan Akhtar remake, slated for a release this Diwali.
In the film Kareena attempts to seduce the new Don (Shah Rukh Khan) with a dance sequence performed to the beat of a remixed 'Ye Mera Dil Pyar Ka Deewana', one of the two songs retained from the original film.
For those who have not seen the original Don Kareena's cameo will be just an item number. Others will compare it with the performance by the inimitable Helen.
